Gramma is a new, eagerly awaited vocabulary and grammar game from
Ydala i Övik AB. The game, a classic party game using a
board, dice and playing
cards, quickly encourages a basic knowledge of grammar. It extends
vocabulary, develops a feel for the language and increases the ability to
communicate - all in an educational game using words and parts of speech.
Gramma is a team game in which the individual’s imagination and
creativity are essential.
Every player takes part actively in the game and co-operation is important.
Using given words, players have to do charades and take part in
head-to-heads, draw, guess and think of synonyms and antonyms.
Gramma can be easily adapted to the players’ level of ability. This
means that everyone can take part. Children can play with adults, grammar experts with beginners. The much appreciated special key to
grammatical terms is a rich source of knowledge and support throughout the
game.
Gramma is instructive. It is exciting. It is stimulating. And it is
fun!
You can find more information under the following headings.

The aim of the game
It is important to be able to speak your mother tongue. Grammar forms the
basis of linguistic structure. Without a basic understanding of this, our
capacity to communicate is greatly diminished, as is our ability to make
ourselves understood. Knowledge of grammar is also a great asset when
learning a new language.
The aim of Gramma is to enable the players to learn grammar in an
effective and enjoyable way, increasing their vocabulary and developing
their feel for the language. This is achieved, for example, by:
● guessing the right answer to a word which is drawn or illustrated by a
charade
● giving the correct answer to grammatical questions
● finding synonyms or antonyms to a word
● challenging each other to grammatical head-to-heads
Gramma in the classroom
Gramma is an educational game which encourages the desire to learn grammar.
It can be used both as an introduction to, and as revision of, English
grammar. It is therefore an excellent teaching aid.
The advantage of Gramma is that it encourages co-operation, facilitates
and extends learning through the use of several senses and speeds up the
learning process. Furthermore, the game can be adapted to suit the size
and ability level of the group, and the time available.
Gramma makes students look forward to grammar lessons. It captures their
attention, gets their imagination working and increases their motivation.
